disabstraction.

  • To complete his vision, Ben Moreau proposes a series of original works that he names «disabstraction.».

At the crossroads between photography and sculpture, this «mise en abîme» uses an element of the abstract subject in order to support the photograph itself and creates an extension towards the tangible world.

By this «disabstractive» process, the subject is self-supported and introduces a new level of abstraction.

  • Following one of the first foundamental principles of the Bauhaus school, Ben seeks to blurry the boundaries between art and craftmanship by creating one total piece of art for each disctrict.

“ So let us therefore create a new guild of craftsmen, free of the divisive class pretensions that endeavoured to raise a prideful barrier between craftsmen and artists! “
-Walter Gropius, Program of the Staatliche Bauhaus in Weimar, 1919.

d11., first collaboration.

d11., the «disabstraction.» of the district 11 (kreis 11.), was created thanks to a joint work with the highly renowned French metal workshop "Les Compagnons de l'Art et du Savoir Fer". A realization stamped by the greatest French craftmen, passionate and creative.

Matthieu Jacquemot, specialized in the art of metalwork.

Thanks to the audacity of Matthieu, his passion, his knowledge of ancestral techniques and the use of techniques offered by new technologies, this multidisciplinary team was able to create a total work of art.

The first «disabstraction.» ever made, «d11.», was presented at the Swiss photography fair Photoschweiz in Zürich in May 2022.
