ungeschminkt project.

  • The «ungeschminkt.» project is a photographic work that presents a set of 144 photographs. A series of 12 images is devoted to each district and highlights the plasticity of architectural works, intimately linked to external factors such as space and time. Strict materiality thus generates an artistic immateriality, each shot offers a unique micro-state, making its observer a privileged witness.

  • Known as a major financial hub, Zürich is also positioned as a high-ranking creative place. Throughout centuries, scientists, philosophers and artists have exchanged knowledge and ideas. Cradle of the Dada movement, the Swiss-german gem was an ideal breeding ground to the emergence of renown architects and enabled a myriad of studios to flourish around diverse influences.

  • Walk through the city and learn to keep the eyes wide open, while it dictates how to look at its architectural details.

disabstractions.

To complete his vision, Ben Moreau proposes a series of original works that he names «disabstractions.». Following one of the first foundamental principles of the Bauhaus school, Ben seeks to blurry the boundaries between art and craftmanship by creating one total piece of art for each disctrict.

At the crossroads between photography and sculpture, this «mise en abîme» uses an element of the abstract subject in order to support the photograph itself and creates an extension towards the tangible world. By this «disabstractive» process, the subject is self-supported and introduces a new level of abstraction.

The «disabstraction» d11. was presented at the Swiss photography fair Photoschweiz in Zürich in May 2022.

“ So let us therefore create a new guild of craftsmen, free of the divisive class pretensions that endeavoured to raise a prideful barrier between craftsmen and artists! ”

— Walter Gropius, Program of the Staatliche Bauhaus in Weimar, 1919.
